What Value does the Gate Token (GT) offer?

The collapse of FTX (FTX) and Binance’s legal troubles are scaring many speculators away from exchanges. Conversely, interest in cryptocurrency exchanges is still high.

For example, Gate.io’s Gate Token (GT) was CoinMarketCap’s 12th most trending cryptocurrency on 24 April 2023. CoinMarketCap listed Gate.io as the 10th largest Cryptocurrency Spot Exchange with a 24-Hour Trading Volume of $644.600 million on 25 April 2023.

In contrast, Binance US was the ninth-largest Cryptocurrency Spot Exchange with a 24-Hour Trading Volume of $375.809 million on 25 April 2023. The world’s number-one exchange, Binance (BNB), had a $7.567 billion 24-Hour Trading Volume on 25 April 2024.

Gate.io attracted 2.66 million weekly visits in the week ending on 24 April 2023, CoinMarketCap estimates. In contrast, Binance attracted 14.082 million weekly visits in the same period.

What is Gate.io?

Gate.io claimed to have over 12 million users in over 224 countries on 24 April 2023. They also claimed Gate.io had an average daily trading volume of over $4.95 billion on 24 April 2023.

Gate.io is a centralized exchange (CEX) that lists over 1,400 cryptocurrencies. Gate.io offers Spot Trading, Leveraged Trading, Leveraged Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), Liquidity Mining, Leverage EFTs, Secured Loans, Derivatives, Copy Trading, P2P Trading, Gate NFT, and HODL & Earn.

Spot Trading is the trade of digital assets with instantaneous delivery. We also know spot trading as cash trading because many people make spot trades with cash. Hence, users buy crypto and other assets with cash.

In contrast, leveraged or margin trading buyers use credit to finance trading. Most leveraged trading uses a margin or line of credit to finance trades. Leveraged ETF Trading, people buy tokens linked to exchange-traded funds (ETFS) that contain cryptocurrencies and other assets.

Mr. Market thinks the Gate.io exchange and the Gate Token (GT) have some value. The Gate Token is an Ethereum Request for Contact (ERC-20) token that serves as Gate.io’s utility token.

For example, the Gate Token was CoinMarketCap’s 13th most trending cryptocurrency on 24 April 2023. However, Gate was CoinMarketCap’s 85th ranked cryptocurrency on 25 April 2023. CoinMarketCap gave the Gate Token a $5.27 Coin Price and a $515.448 million Market Capitalization on 25 April 2023.

In contrast, the Gate Token had a Fully Diluted Market Cap of $1.581 billion, a 24-Hour Market Volume of $754,377 and a Centralized Exchange Volume (CEX) of $761,051. They base those numbers on a Circulating 97.786 million GT and a Total Supply of 300 million GT.

The Gate Token shows cryptocurrency exchanges can still achieve enormous value. However, I think such exchanges are still unstable. Smart speculators will use utilities such as Gate.io to make investments but avoid investing in them.
