It’s not all about cold, hard cash. Many charities make money by selling goods, and that means they need donations.

When we think about supporting a charity, we tend to limit our thinking to handing over some cash.

In most cases, that’s the end of our support until the next time we get paid. However, when you find a charity that does good work and is close to your own values and hopes, then it’s inevitable that you’d want to be more involved with them.

There are many ways that you can do more for the charities that are closest to your heart, and in most cases, you’ll be supporting them in ways that even the highest cash donation could never match.

Donating Unwanted Possessions

It’s not all about cold, hard cash. Many charities make money by selling goods, and that means they need donations.

If you’re doing a spring clean or a general home decluttering, keep all of your unwanted possessions to one side. There’s a good chance that the clothes that don’t fit will be very welcomed at a homeless shelter, but books, games, and even ornaments can be highly valuable for charities of all kinds.

Use Social Media

All businesses need a social media presence these days, and charities are no different. It’s important to follow those charity accounts on social media because it makes it easier to share specific events and news from those charities.

So when your chosen charity releases new research on Iran foreign policy, you get access to it faster and can share it among your social groups. Digital marketing is crucial for charities, and that ‘follow’ will always be beneficial. Every like, retweet, or share will add to their online presence, making it easier for them to be found.

Volunteering

If you don’t want to donate money to a charity, you can always donate your time. This is one of the most popular ways to get more involved with a charity, even if you’re nothing more than an extra pair of helping hands.

Of course, if you have any key skills that you can offer to that charity for free, then all the better! From doing accounts to writing press releases, let those charities know how you think you can help them the most.

Organize Events

If you want to see a charity that you love get the donations you know it deserves, then organizing an event for them is a great way to make that happen.

You could take part in a fun run and get sponsors to pay you for every mile or organize a bikini carwash as a fundraising event. There’s no end to the number of events that you can organize if you have the time.

Chat with the charity themselves to get ideas and to let them know what you’re doing. They’ll often help to promote your event, even if you’re just shaving off your beard!

There are more charities than ever, but we’re giving more than ever too. No matter your values, there will be a charity out there with goals that you align with.

Once you find that charity, you’ll often want to do more for them than hand over a small portion of your salary every month. There are more ways to get involved and help support them than you might have thought.
